Private Piano Study

It is my experience that age 7 is the minimum age to begin formal piano training. However, younger students who are reading well and are excited about learning to play certainly should be considered for private lessons. Students enrolled in private piano study will receive individualized instruction based on the student's needs, skills and musical interests. Beginning students are taught sightreading skills, technique, rhythm and musicality. Musical repertoire is through coursebooks and solo/duet pieces reflecting the age and interests of the student.

Intermediate and advanced students additionally study classical repertoire and expand to genres of choice. Theory and musicianship skills are incorporated into each lesson. Opportunities for performance and critique are offered to all students. Students enrolled in private piano must have an acoustic piano or 88 key hammer action/weighted keys keyboard.

Students aged 12 years and older may enroll in keyboard lessons.  Lessons are individualized to the student's goals, with the primary objective to learn accompaniment styles in order to play in ensembles/ bands, or to accompany vocalists. The focus is on chord study and reading EZ play music and Lead Sheets. Students are introduced to many styles of music. A keyboard is required with 1-finger and chord accompaniment play. Students are quickly playing many musical styles of choice!

Students may begin their flute study at the age of 12 or when entering 6th grade. An instrument specific coursebook is required which shows fingering charts. Students are instructed in correct positioning, fingering, embouchure, technique, and tonality. Students are assisted with UIL solo and ensemble pieces as well as student selected repertoire. Lessons are private, and are available for beginning and intermediate flutists. Students are encouraged to perform in all public performances that are offered. An instrument is required.
